At the Humane Society of Central Texas, our mission centers on keeping beloved pets and their people together. Through the Human-Animal Support Services (HASS) model, we work directly with pet owners facing difficult situations – whether it’s financial hardship, medical needs, behavioral challenges, or anything creating a strain in keeping a furry family member. By offering practical support, resources, and guidance, we aim to help families overcome obstacles so they can keep the pets they love.
Shelters and rescues are continually overwhelmed with stray and surrendered animals, especially here in Texas. That’s why our model focuses on preventing the need for rehoming in the first place. But when staying together isn’t possible, our home-based foster program steps in to provide safe, loving care until a permanent forever home can be found – offering a No-Kill alternative for pets in need.
We believe shelters should serve as a last resort, not the first stop, for pets in crisis. Our vision is a community where every pet has a support system and every person has access to compassionate, lifesaving options.
