General Adoption Questions

What’s included in the adoption fee?
All adoptions include spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccines, microchipping, and basic medical care while in our foster program. Our fees help offset just a portion of the resources provided.
Adoption fees vary based on species, age, and medical needs. Typical fees range from $75 to $150.
Our adoption fees are carefully set to help cover essential veterinary care that the animal has received while in our care. These fees ensure we can continue rescuing and rehabilitating other animals in need. If the fee is a barrier, please let us know—while we generally cannot waive fees, we may be able to suggest resources that can help support your pet care journey.
At this time, we are unable to offer special discounts for senior citizens, veterans.

Eligibility & Requirements

Anyone 18 or older who can provide a safe, stable, and loving home is eligible to adopt. A valid ID is required.
While most adopters live nearby, we welcome out-of-area adopters who can either travel to meet the pet in person or set up transport for the pet.
Yes, but we’ll ask for confirmation that your lease allows pets — and that there are no breed or size restrictions that could affect your ability to keep the animal.
That’s great. We often arrange meet-and-greets to ensure compatibility. Your current pets should be up to date on vaccinations.

Application & Process

Most applications are reviewed within 2–3 business days. Some may take longer if additional information is needed or if there are multiple applications for the same pet.
Our team will review your responses and connect you with the pet’s foster caregiver. If the match looks good, we’ll set up a meet-and-greet.

Meet-and-Greet & Compatibility

Absolutely. We require meet-and-greets before finalizing any adoption. It helps ensure the pet is a good fit for you, your family, and any other animals in your home.
We’ll work with you to assess compatibility and may suggest a different pet if the match isn’t ideal. Our goal is a happy, safe home for everyone.
No. We require all adopters to be directly involved in the application and meet-and-greet. We recommend giving the gift of choice by covering an adoption fee instead.

After Adoption

Yes! You’ll receive all available medical records while in our care, including vaccination history and spay/neuter documentation, at the time of adoption.
We understand that not every match works out. Please contact us right away. We’ll work with you to troubleshoot or arrange a return if needed.
With being a foster based rescue, it can be difficult to find immediate placement for returns. However, we do consider our pets forever HSCTX animals so we do offer support if you are needing to return your pet!
Yes. Our team is available to help you navigate the transition. We can provide behavior advice, training resources, and community referrals.

Pet Details & Health

Are HSCTX pets spayed/neutered and vaccinated?
