More about Cookie Dough

Some of yall may remember Cookie Dough from way back in January when we pulled her from the shelter after she was listed as “at-risk”. She’s still with us and has been thriving in foster care ever since! Now, she’s ready to find her forever home. 💛
Her foster says:
“Cookie is a drop of sweetness with a dash of spice… there’s never a dull moment! She’s got a bold, curious personality and loves to explore the world nose-first.
But Cookie’s not all go-go-go, she LOVES her chill time too. A good chew toy, belly rubs, and a cozy lap are her idea of heaven. She’s affectionate, snuggly, and loves her people fiercely.
Sure, she’s got her quirks… who doesn’t? Cookie Dough knows what she likes (and doesn’t!). She’s been a joy to have in foster care. I know that when she bonds with someone, she’ll be their ride-or-die for life.” 🥰
Quick Facts about Cookie Dough –
🍪 Crate & potty trained
🍪 Dog-friendly on her terms — prefers male dogs her size who know when to play vs. chill
🍪 Not good with small dogs or cats
🍪 Walks great on leash, sits on command (especially for treats!)
🍪 Total Girl’s Girl 💅 — not a fan of men; needs a women-only home at this time
🍪 Best in a home without young kids
🍪 Spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped
Cookie Dough is currently our 2nd longest resident. We know her needs are specific, but we do believe there’s a perfect home for her out there somewhere. 🫂

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s included in the adoption fee?
All adoptions include spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccines, microchipping, and basic medical care while in our foster program. Our fees help offset just a portion of the resources provided.
Pre-adopting means you’re committing to give a pet their forever home before they’ve completed all of their medical care. We ask for a partial down payment to place the pet on hold while we get everything finalized. Some pets can go home with you right away, while others may need to stay with their foster a bit longer. Either way, they’re officially yours once they receive medical clearance!

We want every match to succeed. We offer a “Paws & Reflect” trial week before signing our adoption agreement and paying any final fees. If things don’t work out, we ask that you return the pet to us so we can find the right next step – no judgment.

Our adoption application simply lets us know you’re interested – it’s not a commitment! Since our pets are in foster homes, submitting the form helps us start the process and coordinate a meet-and-greet with the foster. If it feels like the right fit, we’ll guide you through the next steps to make it official!

All of our adoptable pets are in foster homes, so meeting them depends on scheduling with their foster family. We’ll work with you to set up a meet-and-greet as soon as possible. Some pets may be available for pre-adoption while they finish medical care. Depending on the specific pet, they might go home with you early or stay with their foster until everything is finalized. Either way, we’ll guide you through the process!

It means the dog has tested positive for heartworms, a treatable condition caused by parasites spread through mosquito bites. It’s not contagious to people or other pets, and we’ll cover the cost of treatment through our veterinary partners. These dogs can still live full, happy lives – and they need loving homes just like any other pup!

FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) affects a cat’s immune system, but many FIV-positive cats live long, healthy lives with good care. It’s only spread through deep bite wounds, so friendly, indoor cats can safely live with other cats. FIV-positive cats still make wonderful companions – and they deserve loving homes too!

Yes – all pets adopted through our program must be spayed or neutered. The only exception is for senior pets who, after veterinary evaluation, are determined to be medically unfit for surgery due to age or health concerns. Spaying and neutering is an important part of responsible rescue and helps us prevent future pet overpopulation. It can also reduce chances of certain cancers and behavioral challenges for your pet!

Yes – all pets in our adoption program must be up to date on core vaccinations. This helps protect them, and other animals, from serious and deadly diseases like rabies and canine parvovirus. Vaccinating is a simple but critical step in keeping pets and communities safe.
